Quick answer

March Madness bingo is played while watching NCAA tournament games. Each player's card has tournament moments like Buzzer Beater, Upset, Cinderella Team, Full-Court Press and One Shining Moment. Not everyone in the office can name a 12-seed, but everyone can spot an air ball. March Madness bingo is the tournament game for people who don’t want to fill out a bracket, and for people whose bracket was busted by the first Thursday. You don’t need picks or any knowledge of college basketball. You just need to watch.

The 2027 tournament ends at Ford Field in Detroit, with the men’s national semifinals on Saturday, April 3, 2027, and the championship on Monday, April 5.

How do you play March Madness bingo?

The broadcast is the caller. Players mark moments as they happen.

  1. Print a card for each player from the generator at the top of this page.
  2. Turn on any tournament game (or several).
  3. Players mark squares when they see them: a three-pointer, a technical foul, the band playing, a crying fan.
  4. The first to complete a row, column or diagonal yells “Bingo!” The center square is free.
  5. Keep going for four corners or a full card.

Because games run all day during the opening rounds, many groups play one card per game or per session.

How many March Madness bingo cards should I print?

One per player per game. The opening weekend has dozens of games, so a watch party might go through 50 cards or more. Every card from the generator is unique, so players win at different moments.

Ground rules

  • Any game counts? Decide whether players can mark plays from any game on any screen, or only the main game. A sports bar with eight TVs makes the first version wild.
  • Replay official. Pick someone to confirm disputed squares.
  • Round-specific squares. “Sweet 16,” “Elite Eight” and “Final Four” count when the announcers say the words, not only during that round. That way the cards work all tournament.

Variations

  • Office edition. Put cards in the break room for the first Thursday and Friday, when many people sneak a look at games during lunch. Keep prizes small and free to enter.
  • Cinderella round. Each player picks a double-digit seed. If that team wins a game, they mark any square of their choice.
  • Women’s tournament night. The squares work equally well for the NCAA women’s tournament.
  • Custom team cards. Use the custom bingo card generator to add your alma mater’s mascot, coach and fight song.

Keep it a game, not a wager

March Madness bingo is meant to be a free, for-fun party game. Avoid collecting entry fees; paid sports pools fall under state gambling laws that vary widely. If betting stops being fun, the National Problem Gambling Helpline is 1-800-GAMBLER, and our responsible gaming page has more resources.

Prize ideas

A team T-shirt, a basketball keychain, a bag of popcorn, a coffee gift card, the “bracket champion” trophy (a spray-painted soda can works) or first pick of snacks at the Final Four party. More ideas are in our bingo prize ideas guide.
