Quick answer
No. Bingo played for money or prizes is not legal in Utah. The state constitution bars the Legislature from authorizing any game of chance, lottery or gift enterprise, so there is no charity bingo, casino bingo or state lottery. Real-money online bingo is also illegal. Free bingo with no buy-in is a different matter, and sweepstakes sites sit in a legal gray zone.
| Charitable / hall bingo | Not permitted |

| Sweepstakes bingo sites | Unclear |
| Tribal casino bingo | No |
| Minimum age | Not applicable (gambling, including bingo for prizes, is prohibited) |
| Regulator | No gaming regulator (gambling prohibited by Utah Constitution, Art. VI, Sec. 27) |
Is bingo legal in Utah?
No, not when money or prizes are at stake. Utah is one of the few states with no legal gambling of any kind: no casinos, no state lottery, no charity bingo and no pull-tabs.
The rule comes from the top. Article VI, Section 27 of the Utah Constitution says the Legislature “shall not authorize any game of chance, lottery or gift enterprise under any pretense or for any purpose.” Because bingo is a game of chance, lawmakers can’t create a charitable bingo exception the way most states have. Changing that would take a constitutional amendment approved by voters.
How old do you have to be to play bingo in Utah?
There’s no age rule because there’s no legal bingo-for-prizes to regulate. Free bingo is open to all ages. That covers classroom games, family nights and free games at senior centers where nobody pays to play.
The line to watch is consideration. If players buy cards, pay an entry fee or have to make a “donation” to play for a prize, the game starts to look like gambling under Utah law.
Can you play online bingo for real money in Utah?
No. Utah’s gambling statute specifically reaches Internet and online gambling. According to reporting on the law, playing is generally a class B misdemeanor, rising to class A for repeat offenses, while offering online gambling to someone in Utah is a third-degree felony. In 2026, Utah’s Attorney General joined other states in urging federal action against offshore sites that target residents.

Are sweepstakes bingo sites legal in Utah?
This is genuinely unclear. As of October 2026, Utah has no statute that names sweepstakes casinos or sweepstakes bingo, and industry trackers report that the major dual-currency brands accept Utah players.
But Utah law gives these sites no special protection. The state doesn’t authorize the model, the constitution bans games of chance, and the criminal code’s definition of gambling is broad. Sweepstakes sites argue they aren’t gambling because you can get coins without paying. No Utah court or agency has publicly tested that argument as of this update. Where can you play bingo in Utah?
Inside Utah, bingo means free games:
- Senior centers and assisted living communities, often with small donated prizes and no buy-in
- Churches, schools and libraries running social bingo nights
- Home and party games using our printable bingo cards or bingo caller tool
For bingo with cash prizes, Utah players usually head out of state. Casinos in Wendover and Mesquite, Nevada, sit right on the border. See our Nevada bingo guide for the rules there.
How to run a charity bingo game in Utah
You can’t run a paid bingo game as a fundraiser in Utah. You can still use bingo to bring people together while raising money another way:
- Make the bingo free. Don’t charge for cards or entry, and don’t require a donation to play.
- Use donated prizes. Gift baskets and gift cards from local businesses keep costs down.
- Raise money separately. Sell dinner tickets, run a bake sale or take open donations that don’t affect anyone’s chance to win.
- Ask a lawyer if you’re unsure. Utah’s rules are strict, and “suggested donations” can blur the line.

Frequently asked questions
Can a church or school hold a bingo fundraiser in Utah?
Not one where people pay to play for prizes. Utah has no charitable gaming exception, so a paid bingo fundraiser is gambling under state law. Many groups instead run free bingo with donated prizes and raise money through food sales or donations that aren't tied to playing.
Is free bingo legal in Utah?
Bingo where nobody pays or risks anything of value to play generally isn't gambling. Family games, classroom bingo and free senior-center bingo are common in Utah. Check with your organization if any money changes hands.
Is online gambling illegal in Utah?
Yes. Utah's criminal code specifically covers Internet gambling. Playing is generally a class B misdemeanor, and offering online gambling to someone in Utah is a third-degree felony.
Are there tribal casinos with bingo in Utah?
No. Utah has federally recognized tribes, but none operates a casino or bingo hall in the state.
