Quick answer
75-ball bingo is the standard version of bingo in the United States. Each card is a 5×5 grid under the letters B-I-N-G-O, with a free space in the center. B holds numbers 1–15, I 16–30, N 31–45, G 46–60 and O 61–75. Players win by marking a called pattern, such as a straight line, four corners or a blackout.
| Balls | 75 (numbered 1–75) |
|---|---|
| Card | 5×5 grid, 24 numbers |
| Free space | Yes — center square |
| Most popular in | United States and Canada |
| Typical game length | Usually 2–10 minutes per pattern |
The 75-ball bingo card
A 75-ball card has five columns, one for each letter of B-I-N-G-O. Each column only ever holds numbers from its own range:
| Column | Numbers | Squares |
|---|---|---|
| B | 1–15 | 5 |
| I | 16–30 | 5 |
| N | 31–45 | 4 + free space |
| G | 46–60 | 5 |
| O | 61–75 | 5 |
The center square is a free space, which counts as marked from the start. That’s why patterns that pass through the middle — like the diagonals or the letter X — need one fewer number than you might expect.
How a game of 75-ball bingo is called
- The pattern is announced. Before any balls are drawn, the caller tells players what pattern wins: a single line, four corners, a picture frame, a blackout and so on.
- Balls are drawn at random. The caller announces each ball by letter and number, for example “B-7” or “N-42”. The letter tells you which column to check.
- Players mark their cards. Halls use ink daubers; home games often use chips or markers.
- Someone shouts “Bingo!” The caller checks the winning card against the numbers called. If it’s valid, that player wins the game. If two or more players bingo on the same ball, the prize is usually split.
Popular 75-ball patterns
75-ball bingo’s big advantage is variety. Because the card is a square grid, halls can play dozens of shapes. The most common are:
- Straight line — five in a row across, down or diagonally
- Four corners — just the four corner squares
- Postage stamp — a 2×2 block in any corner
- Letter X — both diagonals
- Picture frame — every square around the outside edge
- Blackout — every square on the card

Where 75-ball bingo is played
75-ball is the game you’ll find in church halls, VFW and American Legion posts, tribal casino bingo halls and most bingo apps in the US and Canada. If someone in the US just says “bingo”, this is the game they mean. In the UK, the standard game is 90-ball bingo. We compare the two side by side in 75-ball vs. 90-ball bingo.
Frequently asked questions
What numbers are under each letter in 75-ball bingo?
B has 1–15, I has 16–30, N has 31–45, G has 46–60 and O has 61–75. Each column on the card holds five numbers from its range, except N, which has four numbers and the free space.
