Free Printable Blank Bingo Cards (5×5 Template to Fill In)

Quick answer

A blank bingo card is an empty 5×5 grid with B-I-N-G-O across the top and a free space in the center, leaving 24 squares to fill in yourself. Print as many as you need, then have players write in words, numbers, names or pictures. It's the go-to template for classroom vocabulary, "guess the gift" shower games and "find someone who" icebreakers.

Every card shows an ID like START-001. Enter the same set code with the same settings to rebuild the exact same cards and check a winner.

Sometimes the best bingo card is the one you fill in yourself. Teachers write this week’s vocabulary on the board and let students copy words into their own grids. Shower hosts ask guests to predict the gifts. Team leaders turn squares into icebreaker prompts. A blank 5×5 grid handles all of it, and you can print as many as you need from the generator above.

How do you use a blank bingo card?

Print the empty grids, fill the squares, then play like regular bingo.

  1. Print cards from the generator at the top of this page. Choose how many you need.
  2. Give players a word bank of at least 30 items, written on the board or a handout.
  3. Players choose 24 items and write one in each square in any order. The center stays free.
  4. Call items one at a time. Players mark them if they wrote them down.
  5. The first to complete a row, column or diagonal wins.

Because players pick and place their own words, every card ends up different.

What can you write on a blank bingo card?

Almost anything that fits in a square:

  • Vocabulary words for any subject: science terms, Spanish words, history names.
  • Math answers. Students fill in products or sums and the teacher calls the problems, like our multiplication bingo.
  • Gift predictions at a baby shower or bridal shower.
  • “Find someone who” prompts for icebreakers, as in our team building bingo.
  • Pictures for pre-readers: kids draw a sun, a cat, a ball.
  • Family names and inside jokes for reunions.
  • Book or movie moments to mark while reading or watching together.

How many blank bingo cards should I print?

One per player, plus a few extras for mistakes. Kids sometimes write a word twice or run out of space, and a fresh card avoids tears. For a class of 25, print 30.

Tips for teachers

  • Writing is the lesson. Copying vocabulary into squares is spelling practice before the game even starts.
  • Use a 30-plus word bank. With only 24 words, every card holds the same words and games end very quickly.
  • Check cards before you start. A quick look prevents duplicate words and misspellings.
  • Laminate for reuse. Laminated blank cards work with dry-erase markers week after week.

Frequently asked questions

How many squares are on a blank bingo card?

A standard card has 25 squares in a 5×5 grid. The center is usually a free space, leaving 24 squares to fill in.

Should I use blank cards or the custom card generator?

Use blank cards when you want players to fill in their own squares. Use the custom generator when you have a word list and want every card filled and shuffled automatically.

How do I make sure blank bingo cards are all different?

Give players a list of 30 or more words and ask them to choose 24 and write them in any order. Different choices and orders make every card unique.
